Timaru District Council says myWorksites became the sole platform for local CAR, WAP and TMP applications from 1 July 2025. BeforeUdig is still required before excavation, and NZTA corridor CARs are handled outside the Timaru Council myWorksites CAR pathway.

Timaru's May 2026 Local Operating Procedure sets local minimum standards for local roads, gives TMP review timeframes, explains urgent TMP review expectations and records the district transition toward NZGTTM risk-based practice.

Port, industrial, rail and state-highway interfaces

PrimePort is on the edge of the CBD with Port Loop Road and Heaton Street access, adjacent rail yards and sidings, log, bulk, container, heavy-lift, fishing and cruise activity. Work near SH1, SH78 or SH79 may also need NZTA pathway checks.

CBD, Caroline Bay and event traffic

Timaru District event pages show closures and public-notice requirements for events such as the Matariki Night Market, Geraldine Festival and Geraldine Christmas Parade, while local tourism pages promote Caroline Bay, Stafford Street and South Canterbury events.

Council event notices list approved Matariki Night Market closures on Stafford Street, Church Street and Strathallan Street, and the LOP defines Timaru CBD restrictions inside North Street, SH1 and the KiwiRail main trunk line.

TMP note: Check CBD work restrictions, business frontage, parking, loading, pedestrian routes, legal road-closure notices, communications plans and Matariki or market activity before setting work hours.

Caroline Bay, Soundshell, Hall, port edge and Seaside / Rock & Hop

Timaru visitor and event pages promote Seaside Festival activity, Caroline Bay Rock & Hop, the Great Beach Dig and Caroline Bay as a major visitor-event setting near the CBD and port edge.

TMP note: Check event dates, crowd and vehicle arrivals, beach and Soundshell access, parking, Hall Street, Bay Hill, Marine Parade, port-edge movements, pedestrian flows and emergency access.

PrimePort, Port Loop Road SH78, Heaton Street, King Street and rail yards

PrimePort lists road access via Port Loop Road from SH78 off SH1 and Heaton Street off King Street, with adjacent rail yards and sidings into the North Mole Container Terminal and Log Yard.

TMP note: For port or nearby CBD work, check freight routes, heavy vehicle turning, rail sidings, log and container movements, cruise or fishing activity, SH1/SH78 detours and whether port access must remain open.

Washdyke, Seadown, SH1/SH78 and industrial freight routes

Venture Timaru describes Timaru as an industrial and logistics hub connected by road, rail and sea, while Council Works Ahead and NZTA notices show Seadown, SH1, SH78 and Port Loop Road works or detours.

TMP note: Check freight peaks, industrial access, SH1/SH78 turn movements, rail-adjacent activity, road closures, oversize or heavy vehicles and whether detours push traffic through local streets.

Geraldine town centre, Talbot, Hislop, Peel, Wilson, Cox and Waihi River

Council event notices show proposed Geraldine Festival and Geraldine Christmas Parade closures affecting Talbot, Cox, Wilson, Hislop and Peel streets, with local Works Ahead activity also appearing around Geraldine.

TMP note: Before work in Geraldine, check festival or parade dates, town-centre loading, parking, pedestrians, detours, Waihi River crossings, visitor routes and whether temporary closure notices overlap the work.

Temuka, Pleasant Point, Winchester, Levels and rural approaches

Council Works Ahead notices include Temuka culvert work, Hawke Road KiwiRail line maintenance, Winchester stock-underpass construction and other rural or township works across the district.

TMP note: Check school and business access, rural detour lengths, rail maintenance, stock movement, Levels event traffic, no-parking requirements, agricultural vehicles and resident notification before fixing staging.

Visit Timaru's key events guide lists Rally South Canterbury, SCOFF, The Coastal, the South Island Masters Games, Brews on the Bay and other visitor events that can change traffic patterns across multiple roads.

TMP note: For district work, check major event calendars, route maps, arrival and departure peaks, temporary signage, parking overflow, footpath use, rural roads and whether event TMPs already occupy nearby space.
